Personally, I prefer the former tactic over the latter.

Cars are a big purchase, and people want to feel like they chose a good car. Expressing your opinion that it was a bad choice doesn’t help anything - the car is already purchased and you can’t exactly return a car - and hurts the buyer’s feelings. Instead, find a few positive things about it and talk about those. The buyer will get the impression that you’re not interested in praising them, do go ahead and damn them with faint praise and move on.
